The Solitude of Sadness

What’s worse: crying in a room alone or crying in a crowd, trying your hardest not to let anyone hear? At least alone you have the privacy to lose all decency. When surrounded by watchful eyes, I think the effort of disguising your turmoil, suffocating the sobs, tensing the muscles of your body to try to control it’s wrenching, is worse than the turmoil itself.

Sometimes, I think that sadness needs no company. It’s best to simply be alone.
